Trilesse & Jospeh

Trilesse Iles and Joseph Black were married on the 16th of February 2018 at The Officers Mess, Fort Tapakuna in Auckland.

We first met in 2010 at a bar in Auckland. We’re both in the Navy and Joseph claims he’d seen me around the base before we officially met. Fast forward three years and we were visiting Joseph’s family in Bluff. We headed out for what I thought was just an evening stroll. While staring out at the horizon at Bluff Point I turned to see Joseph on one knee – he then took my hands and popped the question.

We’d always wanted a summer wedding and an outdoor ceremony, and loved the view and relaxing environment at The Officers Mess, Fort Takapuna in Auckland. As a nod to their heritage, Joseph and our two sons wore their korowai at the end of the ceremony. Because the building was already so beautiful, we didn’t want to overdo the décor, opting for simple greenery from eucalyptus leaves on the tables and hanging festoon lights set off with gold trim.

My Made With Love gown instantly caught my eye, and I ended up purchasing it secondhand from Still White – an absolute steal! I accessorised with a three-metre veil, white heels and a silver diamanté necklace. My bridesmaids looked beautiful in blush dresses in varying styles. The boys sported light grey three-piece cashmere suits, tailor-made in Bangkok. Joseph and I had an outfit change for the reception, choosing maroon-red attire to reflect our love.

We had a gourmet buffet-style dinner for our 120 guests and were incredibly lucky to have a yummy semi-naked three-tier vanilla and coconut cake made for us by my uncle, Nick Cookson.

We created our own playlist for DJ Marrs, who also threw in songs he knew would get people off their seats. The entire day was absolutely magnificent, I truly felt like I was floating on cloud nine all day.
