Kathryn & William

Lush florals and thoughtful details made Kathryn Glasgow and William Askew’s Waiheke wedding unforgettable. They got married on the 3rd of February 2018 on Waiheke Island.

Almost eight years after we first met at university in Wellington, Will chose a sunny afternoon on the beach in Waihi to propose. He’d spent months designing the ring, recruiting a family friend, a retired jeweller, to make it.

We tied the knot almost two years later at the beautiful Mudbrick Vineyard and Restaurant on Waiheke Island, after falling in love with the beautiful grounds and outstanding food.

Our colour palette developed from the fabric Will chose for his suit – an almost black blue. We added warmth through our florals, created by Eden from The Botanist – think gorgeous burgundy and dusty pinks.

I was after a gown that made me feel like myself, and found it in a simple, elegant Theia Couture dress from The Bridal Atelier in Sydney. I accessorised with a Suzanne Harward veil, gold Zoe & Morgan earrings and Valentino Tango heels. My bridesmaids wore silk steel blue wrap dresses by Juliette Hogan. Will and his groomsmen all sported custom-made suits by Crane Brothers.

We’re both detail oriented, so using little touches to tie everything together was important to us. We gifted our guests jars of Waiheke Island honey as favours, which doubled as place names, wrapped in white with a gold-leafed name tag.

Our 82 guests were treated to a divine sit-down three-course meal, finished with our five-tier cake made by Will’s mum Wendy. We are both coffee lovers, so the top tier was espresso mud cake.

Our first look was an absolute highlight. Will and I don’t like being the centre of attention and at one stage had considered eloping, but it was so different to what we had imagined. It was so heartwarming to see our closest family and friends smiling back at us. I will never forget the absolute happiness I felt marrying my best friend.
