Fashion Week Quick-Fire: Joico

Bridal hair trends will come to glossy, voluminous life on next week's New Zealand Weddings Collection runway! Here, Joico's Leisa Welch gives the low-down on what to expect.

What are three words that evoke the essence of your hairstyles you’ve created for the New Zealand Weddings Collection show at Fashion Week this year?
The up-do is sexy, tousled and natural. The curly look is shiny, bouncy and beautiful.

Can you talk us through them?
The updo is inspired by Brigitte Bardot, who’s look is sexy in a undone, natural way.
The curly look is designed to showcase healthy, shiny and beautiful hair.

What products did you use to achieve these looks?
For the Bardot look, we used Joico’s Hair Shake Finishing Texturizer Spray, Body Luxe Design Foam and Flip Turn Volumizing Finishing Spray.
For the curly look, we used Joico’s Heat Set Blowout Perfecting Crème, Dry Oil Spray, Smooth Cure Thermal Styling Protectant, Curl Defining Contouring Foam and Flip Turn Volumizing Finishing Spray.

What’s the golden rule for brides in terms of their tresses?
Stay true to who you are. Make your hair as beautiful as it can be while still being you.

What’s one thing for brides to remember when you’re deciding on a bridal hairstyle?
If you’re wearing your hair down, have a plan B – if it’s windy or humid, you might want to rethink the style. Don’t follow trends too literally – it needs to suit you.

When should the bride get her hair done on the day, when there’s Mum and bridesmaids also in the line-up?
I’d do the bride second to last, before the mum. Then the bride is still fresh but doesn’t need to worry about being left till last.

What’s a modern take on an up-do?
Up with plaits. Anything that’s not to structured, as trends are moving towards styles that are softer and relaxed.

What are the most-wanted celebrity hairstyles for brides right now?
I’m getting a lot of requests for Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Alba and Kim Kardashian-inspired looks.

What hair products should a bride have on hand for big-day touch-ups?
A mini Joico Flip Turn Volumizing Finishing Spray, Joico Hmidity Blocker and Joico
Hair Shake Finishing Texturiser Spray.

What are your styling products of the moment?
Joico’s Hair Shake and Heat Set.

And the best product for flyaways?
Joico’s Heat Set Blowout Perfecting Crème. And to blow-dry it out nicely at the start, I use Flip Turn Volumizing Finishing Spray.
